The version of Dune 2000 described here only refers to the free-to-play “relaunch” provided by GruntMods Studios, with multiplayer online modes hosted by CnCNet. The game uses a similar game engine to Westwood’s Command & Conquer: Red Alert. It was a partial remake of Dune II, which was more or less based on Frank Herbert‘s Dune universe. NEED ON GOG.Dune 2000 is (now) a free sci-fi real-time strategy video game, originally developed by Intelligent Games and released by Westwood Studios in 1998 for Microsoft Windows and later PlayStation. TL DR: DUNE = GOOD mix of ADVENTURE STRATEGY. Whereas here you travelled to your troops (natives who you had recently encouraged to join you), made your final inspection, then encouraged them to throw themselves full force at the enemy! The only games that provide a similar feeling of "being the commander" tend to be slanted firmly more in favour of the strategy side - and with the exception of the Total War games (where you play many commanders), you're generally stuck in a small number of rooms, controlling everything via screens. Sure Dune 2 is often (erroneously) hailed as the great ancestor of the RTS, but the relatively unique blend of adventure game and strategy game of DUNE - where it really placed you in Paul Atreides' shoes/mind - whether on the front encouraging the troops, in the rear checking out the secrets of the palace, or negotiating for equipment - or riding a giant worm on the way to those places - that was something you don't see very often. Unhide.ĭUNE is a classic that MUST BE PRESERVED. You can't invite this user because you have blocked him. You can't chat with this user because you have blocked him.
